Between The Hills

Jillian Peate is a local Northern Rivers artist based in Kingscliff, NSW. Under the name Between The Hills, she works primarily with ceramics, often combining this with floral design, painting and drawing. Jillian graduated from Sydney’s College Of Fine Arts in 2012 with studio majors in painting and drawing. In 2018, after returning home to the Northern Rivers, she began experimenting with ceramic media and became absorbed in the instinctive, spontaneous nature of clay. Jillian’s ceramic works are shaped by hand, using techniques such as coil and slab rolling. Through the careful, slow processes of hand-building, each piece develops its own character, embracing flaws and imperfections. Also working as a florist, Jillian’s work is often made with flowers and plants in mind. Her recent work explores her recurring tendency towards vases and vessels; creating pieces that are functional and unique.
